Karachiites Are Polite People

I saw this makeshift road sign today at the Zamzama naval roundabout and didn’t know what to make of it. I drove a little further down the street (along the Naval Colony road) and then managed to put two and two together. Someone was having a wedding and decided to pretty much cordon off whatever space they wanted in order to accomodate their guests.

Apart from this sign, which was already on display, there were at least 20 more waiting to be positioned around the area; some with the same message and others with the rather authoratative “No Parking” painted on.

To be honest, I’m not really sure how to react to this, given the city/country I live in.

On the one hand, I should be pissed off that someone can just make a personal decision about how they’re going to use our roads and force it upon  the rest of us Karachiites.

On the other  hand, this kind of activity takes place all the time and all over the country, so one has to admit that it was pretty courteous of the person to actually go through the trouble of preparing and placing these signs in the first place.
